The Common Core State Standards (CCSS) specifies the criteria that all students should accomplish in math and English language (Hallahan et. al., 2015). Those standards are intended to provide a clear understanding of what students are required to learn (Cortiella & Horowitz, 2014). Additionally, they are conceived to promote equity, since all students, despite their disabilities, will learn the same curriculum (Cortiella & Horowitz, 2014). Nevertheless, teaching the general curriculum to students with CIDs will require new educational practices to ensure that the students will achieve the expectations of the CCSS regardless of their limitations. Besides, students might not receive appropriate education if essential life skills are not included in the curriculum.
