In 1787, Representatives for 12 of the 13 states such as New Jersey, Virginia, others all came along so that they could come to an agreement on how to better protect this country. Philadelphia, Pennsylvania was the site on where the US Constitution was mostly made. It was made to make a structure for the building of a federal government so that tyranny would
Ever heard of the Articles of Confederation? Thought not. That’s because within only 8 years of their ratification, they were gotten rid of. This was because, among other things, there were no courts, no national currency, and no taxes. So in May of 1787, 55 men gathered together in Philadelphia to come up with a better plan.
The United States has worked under two constitutions. Articles of Confederation was the first constitution in our nation. It was in effect from March 1st, 1781, after Maryland ratified it. Articles of Confederation was replaced by The Constitution on June 21, 1788, which was ratified by New Hampshire. The main principles behind the modern constitution were human rights, accountability, power separation, representative government, and independence of judiciary.
The rule of law is reflected as a core principle of our nation and vital to ordered liberty. To rightly govern the American rule of law it is essential to acknowledge the continuity between the American Declaration of Independence and the U.S. Constitution. The United States of America “government” is framed by these two important documents. The principles of the Declaration of Independence constitute the foundation of the government based on the universal equality of all human beings, and the U.S. Constitution founds the political process that is to be followed by the elected officials in governing the people. One cannot be without the other; both are essential for a stable government.
When the colonists were still with Great Britain, King George III misused his power. As a result, colonists wrote the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776, to the king, to state their separation from Great Britain, to form a new country, the United States of America. After creating a new country, Americans wrote the Articles of Confederation in the year 1777, which they purposely weakened central government, so the abuse of power, wouldn’t exist. This meant the states had all the power. Although this structure of government seemed great, the creators of the Articles quickly realized that with no central government, states weren’t united because they were busy on increasing the growth of only their state.
The United States of America’s Constitution, written and ratified in 1787, and it has shaped the U.S. to what it is today. After many attempts at making a government for the young country, the Constitution was made. One of the first documented government was the Articles of Confederation. The Articles did not have much power. For instance, It could not tax, and it gave more power to the State governments instead of the National governments.
Sovereignty The United States is a sovereign nation, however, the town of Primrose is not. A sovereign nation is a nation with its own constitution. Because the United States is sovereign, they are independent from other nations and have the freedom to establish a government. Cities and towns are not sovereign which means that the United States federal government governs and supports the town, the town itself does not have its own government.
The United States has a government of laws, not of men. While individuals are in charge of the United States Government, the Constitution is the dogma guiding the decision-making of those in power. After the American colonies declared independence from Great Britain, the collective colonies constructed their first written constitution: The Articles of Confederation. A decade later, the colonies saw the shortfalls of the Articles of Confederation, and came together at the Constitutional Convention of 1787. Like in contemporary politics, two factions controlled the Convention of 1787: the Federalists and Antifederalists.
After fighting for so long and hard to secure independence from the British rule, the young United States of America needed to come together to form a strong nation. Having literally sacrificed blood, sweat, and tears to free themselves from the tyrannical oppression of an over-powered central government, the people wanted to ensure that they would not be trading one for another. There needed to exist a means to effect a measure of equality and security for the newly founded country. The Constitution aimed to do just that.
The government of the United States is a massive and complex organization. Its purpose is to improve and protect the lives of American citizens, both at home and overseas. Because its functions are so numerous and varied, the government operates on several different levels--national, state, and local. At each of these levels the government makes certain demands on its citizens. But this is only to promote the general welfare of the society as a whole.
The idea of the Constitution was brought up after the failures of Articles of Confederation. The founding fathers had a meeting on what improvements should be made to the Articles of Confederation. But the meeting eventually ended up in creating the United States Constitution. This took place at Constitutional
For many years, the U.S. Constitution has become a pinnacle aspect in the debates between political parties and raises a question yet to be answered: Is the Constitution still relevant? Often times referred to as the “framework” of our nation’s government, the U.S. Constitution is open for interpretation and only serves as a guideline thus meaning that there is no correct or incorrect standpoint on the issue of relevancy. Some may claim that the Constitution is no longer relevant because it was written in 1787 therefore, it is “outdated” and cannot fit the many needs of modern day society and it is restricted to the minds of The Founding Fathers who constructed it rather than the people of the United States. On the other hand, one can argue
In 1776 the Continental Congress called upon the colonies to draft new constitutions. The Continental Congress practically asked for colonies to summon themselves into being as new states. According to the theory of republicanism the state 's sovereignty would lie on the authority of the people. The documents the states drafted were contracts that defined the powers of government, as did the old colonial charters, but these new contracts drew their authority form the people, not from the royal seal of the king of Britain. The documents were mean to represent a fundamental law, above to the normal unexplained changes of mind of the ordinary legislations.
In today’s era, the Constitution holds most controversial rights that determines our history. The United States Constitution has provided powerful words, such as “We the People” and “all men are created equal” done with careful evaluation by the Founders, including the Bill of Rights that holds 10 amendments under the Constitution regarding a balance between an individual and the government; however, the document defines the American political system and government relations between citizens and its government
By identifying these components of the role of the U.S national government, we are able to acknowledge the arising conflicts that need to be resolved, in order to create an effective improvement in America’s national government. In the United States, the purpose of the government is to maintain law and order, provide public goods, and promote equality. Maintaining law and order is defined as, “establishing the rule of law to preserve life and protect property” (Janda, Berry, Goldman, Schildkraut, and Manna, 2017, 8).
