I am applying for the Community Foundation scholarship. Growing up in middle Tennessee has been a blessing for me and my family because of the many opportunities that the region offers. During high school, I participated in youth orchestra programs in Murfreesboro and Nashville through the Blair School of Music. I was accepted into the Music City Girls Lead program at Lipscomb University, where I learned valuable skills in leadership and connected with inspiring women in the area. Through this program, I was referred to Rutherford Cable, a networking organization for women in the Rutherford Country and middle Tennessee area. For music, my focus is music management with a certificate in arts management. This certification will help pursue my career goal of working for a professional orchestra. Ever since my involvement in the Nashville Youth Orchestra Program at Vanderbilt, I have had a passion for orchestra management. Mount Holyoke places an emphasis on community and the support of women. Through the alumnae network, I met Kristie Chan, Orchestra Assistant Manager for the Boston Symphony Orchestra. She has helped me better understand arts management, which gave me the determination to pursue a career in the arts. This summer, I hope to bring my skills and knowledge to the middle Tennessee area by working for the Nashville Symphony, my favorite orchestra, as an Operations Intern. In addition to my music focus, I plan on studying abroad the spring semester of my junior year. I also participate in the Mount Holyoke Model United Nations team where I can expand on my diplomacy abilities and develop my knowledge of topics discussed internationally. These experiences allow me to further grow my overall understanding of International Relations.
