After I listened to Majora Carter 's passionate speech, I learn that we must work together as a community to improve the quality of our surrounding environment. Poor neighborhood often located near industrial factories or sewage system which correlated to the high percentages of obesity and asthma in these ares. According to Majora Carter, poor people not only poor but also unhealthy. Coming from a minority low-income family, Carter knows how it feel to live in polluted areas and she was brave enough to stand up and ask her community to help her make a different. During the presidency of George Washington, the ratification of the United States Constitution, and the Society of Friends request for the abolition of slavery there was a small community gaining its roots. Columbia County was formally established on December 10, 1790. It was originally a part of Richmond County in Augusta, Georgia. One of the big players in the decision making process and new policies of the emerging county was William Few, for whom William Few Parkway located in Evans and Grovetown is named. Few suggested that Richmond County be divided into smaller counties which lead to Richmond being split into Columbia.
“Beta club is not for everyone, it is just for those who want to be leaders.” That is exactly why I want to be a member of the Beta club. I want to be a leader. The Beta club is an opportunity giving program, which will give us the chance to serve others and be around others who are different from us. The Beta club can open up many students’ hearts and convey their dreams to the world.
She uses a balance of elements that mix together to form a beautiful piece of artwork known as “Clouds over Laguna”. She includes a lot of color into her piece. A combination of whites, greens, and blues add to the realism. These colors can be found in nature and are common
Social mores are those unwritten rules that dictate how we act in public. They are the things that irritate the general public, like when a person is walking on the “wrong side” of the sidewalk. No law governs which side a person should use, but society expects that one would use the same as what they would drive. If a person enters an elevator and faces the back rather than the front, not only will it make others uncomfortable, but it will be uncomfortable for that person as well. In a similar fashion, attempting to go against the socially expected behaviors for one’s gender is uncomfortable to the point of avoidance.
The World’s Columbian Exposition was among the highest attended events during in 1893. The World’s Fair as it was known to the world, broadcasted various inventions that were deemed revolutionary. America was in the midst of the Gilded Age and Chicago was believed to be an acceptable location for this fair. Chicago was celebrating the four hundred year anniversary of Columbus’ arrival to the Americas and it seemed fitting for an outstanding presentation for middle class Americans and attendees throughout the world. Our research will focus on the importance of the Columbian World’s fair and why it was invested primarily in the northwestern part of the country, Chicago at the end of the Gilded Age, and the middle class of the population
The Oneida Community and John Humphrey Noyes Perhaps the most successful and long-lasting utopian socialist society ever established on American soil, the Oneida Community in New York was a religious commune that withstood the test of time, flourishing for over thirty years. Founded by John Humphrey Noyes and developed from his commune in Putney, Vermont, the Oneida Community was notorious for its unorthodox practices and belief system. John Humphrey Noyes was born on September 3, 1811 in Brattleboro, Vermont to a wealthy and accomplished businessman.
The Prince, by Niccolò Machiavelli which was originally “distributed in 1513” (Machiavelli), is a formal discourse over how a leader will obtain and preserve government power with their subjects and the realm of which they rule. Machiavelli’s Qualities of the Prince emphasizes on what makes a good leader, and he especially claims that a prince should “make himself feared in such a manner that he will avoid hatred” and if “he must take someone’s life, he should do so when there are proper justification and manifest cause,” “but, above all, he should avoid the property of others.” Because a new prince has to use force to establish order, he cannot avoid acquiring a reputation for cruelty, Machiavelli insists, though he admits that it would be best for a leader to be both feared and loved, and that a leader could be both feared and loved if he succeeded in establishing and maintaining order where there had been none. However, since it is difficult to be both loved and feared, Machiavelli cautions, it is safer
The shade of blue he uses is very dominant as it ties her apron and sleeves to the table cloth and to the cupids on the baseboards. The redness of the pitcher matches her skirt, the floor, her facial skin tones, and the footwarmer, and blends in with the yellows used to paint the bread. The colors in bread also causes the viewer to flow to the yellow and gold color in her shirt and to the gold decoration on the wall behind her and to the left. This image has rustic colors consuming the background. The walls are light gray, dark and gloomy with a few spots of what appears to be brown
My community placement is at Brampton Caledon Community Living. The community is mostly for adults and people with intellectual and physical disabilities. It works to support and empower all people in the area and it works alongside the community and families in the community. Most of the people that attend the program are adults that live with either their parent(s) or a family member (low income) in Bolton. To help reach out to and accommodate to families with lower income, the center charges a small fee for the adult to attend.

In this field observation I attended a catholic mass of a friend’s church. I was born in a Christian family and never thought that I would ever attend a Sunday catholic mass. I only have one friend who still attends a church, a catholic church. I attended this mass with my friend Paul and his family who are Pilipino. Paul was nice enough to let come to his church to be an observer and a bit of a participant.
