What’s the importance of being in a loving community? A community is something that most people want. It gives those people who need it most a home away from home. In The Outsiders there are two preeminent communities, the greasers and the Socs, but what’s the huge deal about these communities? What is the importance of having a loving community? In a loving community protection is a number one priority. The importance of protection in The Outsiders is overwhelming. For example, in the rumble when Johnny doesn’t want to fight, but nevertheless he still fights for his gang, “Why do I fight? I thought, and couldn't think of any real good reason. For those who aren’t as fortuitous and don’t have a genuine loving family, a community can be a replacement. Just like how Dally sticks up for Johnny being that he didn’t genuinely have a family,” Johnny was the only thing Dally loved.” For Johnny this community founded him and helped him gain elation out of life. After both Johnny and Dally died, the whole gang’s life was changed. Without them it was tough, but they still helped each other through it just like a family would. A purpose is something that we all search for, and with a community and whether it be for the greaser or the Socs a community can give you that. A loving community can give you a quality for life. Whether it be positive, by helping other families in a burning church, or worse, like beating up kids on the street. These communities can teach life lessons with sticking up for your friends and loving others. If someone from The Outsiders had left one of the gangs they wouldn’t have had someone to be loved by, they wouldn’t be together, or had someone to tell them
