Company Overview Dick’s Sporting Goods was started by Richard Stack in Binghamton, New York in 1948. The store did not become incorporated until November 25, 1996. Dick’s is a sports and fitness specialty retailer offering a range of brand name sporting goods equipment, apparel and footwear. The Company also owns and operates Golf Galaxy; a golf specialty retailer. As of May 4, 2013, the Company operated 520 Dick’s Sporting Goods stores in 44 states, 81 Golf Galaxy stores in 30 states and has websites and catalog operations for both Dick’s Sporting Goods and Golf Galaxy. The Company offers a range of sporting goods and sports apparel at multiple price points in order to appeal to the beginner, intermediate and expert sports consumer. The Company also has a prototype two-level store of approximately 80,000 square feet for those areas that have sufficient customers to support it.
