Organization Description The Minnesota Twins are a professional baseball team that operates within Major League Baseball (MLB) and are based in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Throughout their history, they have originally played in Washington, D.C., and were known as the Senators before relocating to Minnesota in 1961 (Augustyn, 2024). Throughout their time in Minnesota, they have won two World Series titles in 1987 and 1991. Although they have goals like winning on the field and being an overall profitable organization, they also have a strong presence within communities throughout Minnesota. We send volunteers and leftover food from the homestand to feed low-income families and households. The distribution would be carried out via temporary food shelves and food trucks similar to those used in the Taste of Target Field marketing campaign. The trucks would allow for further outreach while also using previously existing resources. In addition to the social focus of alleviating community hunger, it would also look to do so by eliminating food waste from the ballpark. Not only does this align with the overall goals of the Minnesota Twins organization, specifically through sustainability, but it also has the potential to have a large impact on the community. Socially, this initiative allows for the Minnesota Twins to get out into the community and try to negate a common issue throughout the Twin Cities, through items that they may have previously thrown away. Additionally, economically, this initiative can reduce food waste, especially coming from a large producer like Target Field and professional sporting events in general. Making the twins another step closer to “building a better tomorrow.” Our program ties in seamlessly with the Twins Community Fund’s mission of fostering belonging and nurturing the planet. It would look to build community and create a more equitable environment for those in need, while simultaneously helping the planet by creating less food waste. The Twins are one of the greenest sports organizations, specifically when it comes to water, so this would only further this emphasis and pride.
