This is a comparative Rhetorical Analysis over two articles that I have selected over elementary school homework and if the students should be given homework. I have selected this topic because it is very controversial and even though each article is different they each use some of the same techniques to get their point across to their intended audience. My first article is by Time written by Katie Reilly and it talks about everything, the good and the bad about the issue of homework and my second article by News & Observer written by Harris Cooper says yes students should receive homework and goes to explain what the benefits are from students being required to do it. Reilly has a section in her article which is started with The Research which uses the source Harris cooper and talks about his article and what he has researched about the topic of Homework, being a professor of psychology and neuroscience he would be a credible source. Now as we know the second article is written by Harris Cooper himself and in the paper he only has one source which is another paper he wrote concerning Homework. The second article for most people would seem to be a good paper to read if they were looking for information on the subject and pretty persuasive and more credible since the article was written by an expert in the subject where the first paper is using credible sources but its second hand sources. Reilly uses credible sources like Cathy Vatterott an education professor but she does use more than one which gives the paper more than one point of view and take on homework where the article by cooper is a primary source and not the first paper he has written on the subject would lead readers to be more open to the information that is within
