A Christmas Carol is a novella and film by Charles Dickens. It narrates a fictional story of a man named Ebenezer Scrooge who is visited by the ghosts of Christmas past, present, and future in order to convince him to change his poor outlook on life and his greed. The themes of A Christmas Carol overlap with Gospel teachings, such as the dangers of greed and how the poor should be treated with generosity. The theme of greed is represented in A Christmas Carol through the main character, Scrooge.
In the movie The Christmas Carol Scrooge was a business man, he was not nice to other people and did not like Christmas since his partner died on Christmas Eve. After he came from work his partner showed up as a ghost and warned him about three spirits that are going to visit him and each spirit shows him the past, present, and future. The spirit of Christmas that affected Scrooge the most were the spirit of Christmas future. Scrooge did not care about any one after his partner died on Christmas Eve. Once his partner visited him he was supposed to be visited by ghost past, present, and future.
A Christmas Carol is a famous story written by Charles Dickens in wich the protagonist, Scrooge, is visited by three ghosts that teach him a lesson. During the years it has had lots of different versions, in this essay I'm going to compare and contrast two versions, the play: "A Christmas Carol: Scrooge and Marley" and the film: "from Scrooge". Characters in each version are presented differently. In the film characters aren't really described rather than by dialogues, you can see their personalities, clothes and facial expressions. However, in the play they're described in the beggining of the play or in stage directions.
The play “Christmas Carol” includes three spirits that visit Scrooge that change him in some way. The Ghost of Christmas Past, The Ghost of Christmas Present, and the Ghost of the Future are all similar because of their main motive, to change Scrooge. For example, Scrooge says “ Remove me! I cannot bear it.” The Ghost of Christmas Past had shown memories that were haunting Scrooge, which Scrooge had tried to forget them in the past.
In the movie and play A Christmas Carol Ebeneezer Scrooge discovers how his actions now could affect the afterlife. Both of these formats have many similarities, like how all the ghosts of Christmas are described and seen in the same way. Both have the Ghost of Christmas Past very bright, a woman, and held holly. The Ghost of Christmas Present is wearing a large green robe, very tall and mighty figure, and wears a beard. The Ghost of Christmas Future is black, frightening, and has bony fingers.

Ebenezer Scrooge thinks that the entire thing is a joke. “There’s more gravy than of grave about you, whatever you are.” His actions illustrate how simple his life was, by catching him completely off guard, and showing that all of his joy is gone. He becomes terribly frightened by reliving his past.

Although written in the Elizabethan Era, it is still relevant today’s society. The Ghost of Christmas Present changes Scrooge’s perspective on how he should view Christmas as a whole and changes his negative views into positive ones. In Stave 3 of a Christmas Carol, the Ghost brings Scrooge to see a vision of the Cratchit’s celebrating Christmas together as a family.
