In the novel and movie, “A Dog’s Purpose,” by W. Bruce Cameron, the story follows a reincarnated dog who can remember his past lives, one of them being Toby. The two versions are very different, but by far the biggest change in the movie was how they decided to make Toby’s life shorter than his time in the book because of safety reasons. In the book, Toby was put into a yard with several other dogs, and on many occasions, they fought. It would be an incredible liability to have dogs actually fight for the movie. In fact, dogfighting is a felony offense in all 50 states. Also, keeping so many dogs in that small space is not safe for the people around or the pups themselves.
