Textures are used to layer the story in way that helps reduce the amount of words needed by describing the scenes to get the readers more interested in the story. Both A Rose For Emily and The S- Tapes use several types of textures, specifically big voice versus little voice. The first difference to notice about the two stories is the perspective they are told. They both use first person, but have clear contrasts in how they use the first person point of view. An example of using little voice in A Rose For Emily is when they are having a conversation they describe her as dry and cold and then describe an entire dialogue between her and the Colonel (page 2). Towards the end of the story, time seems to move faster as it describes days, weeks and months go by (page 5).
