Alice Paul once said “Courage in women is often mistaken for insanity.” What was once claimed as insanity is now acknowledged as courage thanks to women like Alice Paul and Carrie Chapman Catt. They had a belief and they went on a journey to get their belief an amendment. They believed that women had the same right as men. That's why Alice Paul and Carrie Chapman Catt were so persistent into getting the 19th amendment ratified and women should not take advantage of their vote today.

Alice Paul was a firm believer of equal rights. She believed that women had just as much of a right to vote as men did. She went to a college in England, and while there Alice became politically active. She joined the women's suffragist movement in Britain and had got arrested numerous times due to her not being afraid to use dramatic tactics. After returning to the United States she joined the women's suffragist movement here as well. After the 15th Amendment was passed Paul thought that if all men could vote, then all citizens should be allowed to vote. With her frustration of doing things the nice way Paul left and formed a union with called the Congressional Union for Women's Suffrage. Her goal was to get the federal level to change. In 1887 Catt had became involved with the Women's Suffrage Association. In 1900 she had become president of the National American Woman Suffrage Association. Catt had believed in a careful state by state strategy, she supported president, and believed in a lady like approach.
