SaiRuthwik Putheti Writing #5 07/31/2014 Baseball vs. Cricket Playing sports makes people physically fit. Sports such as baseball and cricket require lot of running which makes people physically fit. Baseball is a popular game in the United States, whereas cricket is a popular sport in countries like India, Australia, South Africa, West Indies, etc. Most people think baseball and cricket are both almost similar, but they are different in many aspects. First difference is the team requirement of players and taking turns. In baseball there must be nine players on a team excluding substitutes. They take turns for nine times for nine innings; every single player will get at least one turn of batting for each game. Usually only one player pitches/ bowls for each innings and each inning are until 3 batters’ get out. Unlike to baseball, in cricket there must be eleven players on a team excluding substitutes. They takes turns too like baseball but not 9 times a game, they take only one turn each; not every player gets to bat in a game. Baseball is played in a quadrant of fair territory between foul lines which is at least 325 feet, whereas cricket is played on a normal circular or oval shaped ground which is at least 420 feet. In baseball, the batter shouldn’t hit to the other side of the foul lines, whereas in cricket, the batter can hit to anywhere on the field, even backwards.
