Love has a variety of different effects on people, if it is genuine it can change people and help them heal their pain but if it is not genuine it can crush and hurt. In Judith Ortiz Cofer's story "Catch The Moon" she states that love can make people want to improve themselves and change for the better. In W.D Wetherell's story "The Bass, The River, and Sheila Mant", he states that love can make a person try to be someone they're not, hiding their true self to impress others and then in it all leading to heartbreak and regret. Given this information we were able to infer his internal conflict which is how he is struggling to cope with the death of his mother. In "The Bass,The River and Sheila Mant" the story is told in 1st person so the conflict is established right from the beginning and it allows the character to elaborate on sheila and we have a better depiction of his private thoughts and how he resolves the conflict by cutting the line and us regrets it and we can tell he regrets it because he says that the memory of the bass will always haunt him. Both authors had a universal theme of love and resolved their conflict the same but with different outcomes. The author for "Catch The Moon" wanted us to watch Luis grow overtime and visualize the story in our heads so thats why it was written in 3rd person, where as in "The Bass,The River and Sheila Mant" it was told in 1st person because the author wanted it to have a personal feel to it. It is written like a private journal, the narrator told us his every thought and feeling. Both characters discover a realization about themselves, Luis discovered the lesson of love and his own individuality which provides hope.
