Grimm’s fairytales were known as gruesome parables that spoke of harsh realities and were told to people of all ages. Disney is identified by their hopeful and imaginary stories aimed at the audience of children. The reasoning behind this stark contrast of fairy tales is for numerous diverse explanations.

Fairytale Comparative Analysis: Little Red Riding Hood The classic story of Little Red Riding Hood that everyone knows is not the only storyline. In “Little Red Riding Hood” by Charles Perrault, he tells the classic fairytale of the little girl going to her grandma’s house and gets stopped by a wolf. In “The Company of Wolves” by Angela Carter is a twisted, dark fairytale about a pack of wolves who capture a little girl in the woods. According to Kimberley J. Lau, Carter actually translated Perrault’s fairytales, which today are the base line for most Disney movies.
Have you ever wondered what was different and similar between those silly and unrealistic fairy tales you were told as a kid? Red Riding Hood was an interesting one about a girl that mistakes a wolf for her granny and, and almost gets eaten. Everyone knows the story of Goldilocks and the Three Bears. Basically, there was a girl that stumbled across a house in the woods and thinks, “It is totally not weird if I walk into someone’s home and use their things.” They catch her and she runs away.
The story of Rapunzel is a fairytale of a young girl that lives in a tower with her mother in the middle of a forest. The girl is beautiful and cherished deeply by her mother, since she was her only child. The story has been rewritten many times, but two of the rewritten stories that stick out in particular is the 1812 Grim Brothers original version and the newest version, Tangled, by the Walt Disney company. The similarities with symbolism and what is valued between the old story and the new one are similar. But at the same time the differences between them are striking and the reasoning behind the specific differences are drastic.
Some would say power is the ability to control a group and have them become your followers while maintaining a strong leadership role. The two books, Animal Farm and Lord of The Flies use power through the two main chiefs of the novels. The book Animal Farm, by George Orwell, is about a group of animals that declare a rebellion against the owner of their farm. They take the farm over, and make Napoleon, the main character who is also the dictator of the book, take leadership of the farm. On the other hand, the book Lord of The Flies, by William Golding is about a group of boys who are stranded on an island with no adults.
Both versions of the fairy tale have different endings which translate into different themes. In the Little Cap Riding Hood, the little girl goes through the woods to her sick grandmother 's house to tend to her (Perrault 210). On her way, she meets a big bad wolf who tricks her to spend some time picking flowers while the wolf ran to the little girl 's grandmother 's house where the wolf ate her. After eating her, the wolf carefully puts on the clothes belonging to the little girl and tucks in carefully in bed waiting for the little girl. On the little girl 's arrival, the wolf ate her too and fell asleep (Perrault 210).
Grimm’s Cinderella is similar and different from Perrault’s Cinderella or (The Little Glass Slipper) because of the moral of kindness, themes, endings. The Grimm version of Cinderella can be compared to the Perrault version because the Grimm’s Cinderella has a darker theme than the Perrault’s version because it has gruesome details. Some gruesome parts in Grimm’s Cinderella is more towards the end of the Grimm fairy tale when the sisters cut off part of their feet. In Grimm’s version the shoe was too small for one the daughters so, “ the mother gave her a knife and said, "Cut the toe off; when thou art Queen thou wilt have no more need to go on foot. " When that did not work the other daughter tried on the shoe and her heel was too large.
Imagine a woman, beautiful and sweet and very humble. She comes from a poor family, but has rich qualities. Does this sound like an Iraqi lady? Cinderella is a story of a beautiful young lady that is taken advantage of by her father’s new wife and her stepsisters. But in the end, she gets all of her wishes with the help of a fairy godmother and lives happily ever after.
