Well I have seen a lot of film versions and no stage versions, and since I like to have fun I will be talking about the differences between "A Christmas Carol" and "A Muppet Christmas Carol". Now besides the Muppets I would say the movie is very accurate, from the costume designs, to the story. They even add direct quotes from the book sometimes, but with every adaptations some changes were made here and there. Of course they had to cut some material out to make the movie a certain time, and they had to make the content a little more enjoyable for their modern audiences so they made the dialog a bit more "with the times". They also added some more personal choices like adding musical numbers which I find is very fitting for the story.
The second story is called How the Grinch Stole Christmas. It has to do with a “Who” who is very mean, and the whole town, except one girl, hates him. It is very similar to A Christmas Carol, when it comes to the main character. Both of their societies sort of reject them, and they are very nasty people.
In the movie and play A Christmas Carol Ebeneezer Scrooge discovers how his actions now could affect the afterlife. Both of these formats have many similarities, like how all the ghosts of Christmas are described and seen in the same way. Both have the Ghost of Christmas Past very bright, a woman, and held holly. The Ghost of Christmas Present is wearing a large green robe, very tall and mighty figure, and wears a beard. The Ghost of Christmas Future is black, frightening, and has bony fingers.
When people are asked to name some of the classic Christmas movies, they are quick to say movies such as Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer (1964), Frosty the Snowman (1969), and How the Grinch Stole Christmas (2000), but they forget to mention the dismal, chilling The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993). You may often come across the Christmas Carol story in many different forms but the play and movie are the most common. Say for example, the play written by Charles Dickens. This play takes place in various places in the city of London. Even if the main topic of both movies is Christmas, one is a more of a “scary” type, while the other one a more family appropriate film.
Compare and Contrast A Christmas Carol is full of many twists and turns, and has been written in many different versions. Writers have taken artistic liberties and have added or taken away to the beloved Christmas story to make it their own.
