Have you ever found yourself in a very bad situation? Did it make you a better or worse person? Getting through tough situations can be challenging, but the outcome is often worth it. Both the stories from “The Diary of Anne Frank” and “Freedom Writers” show that tough times often bring out the best in people.
In “The Diary of Anne Frank,” the Franks could have given up. However, they chose to keep fighting. All that time of being in hiding changed them. Anne became a much more open and trustworthy person. At first, she felt that she wasn’t good enough for everyone else. She felt like she had to be someone completely different from who she really was to be accepted. By the end, Anne knew that she played an important role in her family’s situation

Eva made the choice every day to be part of the gang culture. She chose to associate herself with people that will make her do bad things. She felt that if she left that lifestyle, she would not get respect. The people around her might hate her or even try to hurt her. Eva’s situation ended up bringing out the best in her by showing her that there is more to life than gangs and respect (Freedom Writers). In contrast, Anne was forced into her situation. If she hadn’t gone into hiding, her chances of survival would be incredibly slim. The people that Anne was in hiding with were mostly good people. Anne was not looking for respect, she was looking for survival. If Anne tried to walk away from her situation, there would be no chance that she would survive. Anne had to become the best version of herself to be able to make it through years of hiding (Anne Frank). It might have been hard for Eva, but she would most likely survive. This information is important because it shows that Eva and Anne’s stories are also much different from each other and that while Eva had a chance to positively change her life, Anne had no choice but to hope for the best which brought out good in
