Airports are some of the most frequented travel hubs in the world today. Approximately 2,587,000 people take off and land at United State Airports daily. This means that there are 2,587,000 people that need to be assured of that fact that they will make it to their destination safely. Airport security used to be very relaxed compared to how it is now. The tragedy that happened on 9/11 is what has mainly caused such a large shift in the security of our air travel. Pre-9/11 travel was drastically different compared to our current system. Within the first year of it being established, the TSA took control of the security aspects of around 450 airports within the span of a year. Eventually, it was categorized under the Department of Homeland Security. The TSA has undergone many changes and improvements in order to enhance the security of our airlines. Some of these changes include new security check procedures, cockpit fortifications, VIPR teams, the FAMS, and K9 teams to name a few. The new security check procedures included machines that scanned for bombs, the required removal of shoes (because there was an incident regarding a bomb hidden in shoes), a limit on the liquids brought, pat downs, and the implementation of the TSA Precheck. The TSA Precheck is simply a quicker and more convenient way to get through the security screening process. Minor inconveniences such as removing shoes or belts are not part of the Precheck process. In order to become a part of the Precheck, people must submit to a background check. The background checks are intensive and there is an $85 fee in order to conduct them. Of course, the majority of people view airport security as a hassle are willing to pay this
