The story of Beowulf has to do with a Hero who is the leader of the Geats. Beowulf had three major battles: Grendel, Grendel’s Mother, and the Dragon. As it is in most stories the hero always wins. Beowulf did whatever he had to do to win. He did not win easily, but he made it happen. The story of Beowulf was told a long time ago, but has many similarities to modern day society. Some of the similarities from Beowulf and modern day society are the Black Lives Matter movement, presidential elections, and war in general.

Right now in society we are facing the issue of the “Black Lives Matters” campaign. This campaign was formed in order to bring awareness to black oppression. African Americans are fighting for what they believe. The NFL player Colin Kaepernick refuses the stand during the national anthem because he doesn’t want to salute a country that doesn’t protect his rights. The “Black Lives Matter” campaign is all about fighting for what you believe in. Civil rights has had multiple battles which include slavery, MLK time period, and today. In the story Beowulf was the good. Beowulf was loyal to his king, protected his people, and fought against the evil. Grendel, his mom and the dragon were the evil. They tried to spread terror around Geatland. In modern day society the good would be the United States Army and evil would be ISIS. Everyday ISIS bombs small countries in order to spread terror. Today ISIS bombed Turkish soldiers in Syria. ISIS has sent multiple threats to the US. The US army acts as the hero for our allies. The US is very loyal to our allies. Our troops are the ones sent to war in order to protect their people. Beowulf was sent to battle in order to protect his people. Beowulf put himself in harm's way when he went to battle Grendel’s Mother as did our soldier when they go to war. Beowulf and our soldiers are so loyal to their people.
