For my Frankenstein Essay- Evaluating the Novel and a Film, I choose to compare and contrast Frankenstien’s monster from Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation to the Monster from the Frankenstien original books. There are many differences between the two interpretations of the character, however, there are not many similarities. A few traits, ideologies, or attitudes they have in common are how they both want similar things and smaller details regarding their physical appearance and abilities. While I acknowledge that the weight of what they are being told no to is very different and the context behind the situation is different as well. I'm going to treat it as if it is the same. In the books, the monster is abandoned by his creator, Victor. When he sees a reminder of Victor he kills it. The reminder was Victor's little brother, William. When Victor refuses to make him a bride, he decides to kill almost everyone Victor loves and emotionally tortures Victor. In the movie when Frank is told he can’t go gambling because he previously lost an “arm and a leg”, he does it anyways and loses both of his hands (he can detach his body parts, so it wasn’t like they were chopped off). He then apologizes to his wife and tries to sell it to her that his new hands are better than his old ones. In the books, the monster is feared and grotesque. Society and people don’t accept him because his horrifying outer appearance shows that he wasn’t created by god or in god's image and that he is an unholy creature or a daemon. They scorn him, are horrified by him, shot at him, and fear him upon first glance. Frank is accepted by humans. While there were no humans other than two who didn’t interact with Frank at all in the whole movie.
