The Book Thief The book and the movie do have some differences, but there are also a lot of similarities that the book has that does the movie a lot of justice. Throughout the book the narrator was very distinct about his opinion on humans and their souls. The movie wasn’t narrated like the book, but as the movie played it really set a theme of death and It’s true feelings about the human race and who they are deep down. In the book the narrator said, “I see their ugly and their beauty, and I wonder how the same can be both. Still they have one thing, envy. Humans, if nothing else, have the good sense to die." This quote was also narrated at the end of the movie. This quote really spoke to me. I think that this quote means that people can be different from the face they put on everyday when they get out of bed, that deep down they all have envy and everyone can have an ugly side to them. For example, a small similarity between the two was that in the book Hans Hubermann would read with Liesel everynight and help her learn new words for her strong vocabulary.
