The presidential election of 1932 was a pretty major/ important event in the U.S. at the time. This event took place during the great depression. This event is said by many to be the most crucial election, the most pressured. The two major parties involved during the 1932 election, were Franklin D. Roosevelt, and Herbert Hoover. “ The United States presidential election of 1932 took place as the effects of the 1929 Wall Street Crash and the Great Depression were being felt intensely across the country” (270 To Win). This is a statement given by the Republican party and its goal/ views on the election. “In this time of unprecedented economic and social distress the Democratic Party declares its conviction that the chief causes of this condition were the disastrous policies pursued by our government since the World War, of economic isolation, fostering the merger of competitive businesses into monopolies” (UCSB). As mentioned before about the great depression, both candidate had to come up with some sort of deal in order to be on top and win the race. The first candidate, Franklin D. Roosevelt proposed “The New Deal”. Which is built up of many different many plans to bring us out of the great depression. “Immediate economic relief as well as reforms in industry, agriculture, finance, waterpower, labour, and housing, vastly increasing the scope of the federal government’s activities” (Britannica). This was one of Roosevelt's plans to help the American people. In my opinion, Roosevelt has this election in the bag, the American people have already had a taste of Hoover’s presidency, and it’s what brought them into the depression while having him as president. We could say that Hoover wants to win the race to prove himself to the American people that he brought them
