Scott Fitzgerald’s, The Great Gatsby, he depicts the natural behavior of men as particularly vengeful. In characters like Tom Buchanan and George wilson, although they appear to be total opposites, they both prove to be vengeful in different ways. Both of his characters Tom Buchanan and George Wilson were cheated on and lied to by their wifes. Although their situations were quite similar, their reactions were not. Throughout most of the story Tom Buchanan plays what some might consider to be the “bad guy”. He cheats on his wife in front of Nick, who happens to be Daisy’s cousin. This action could be considered as quite moronic. He is portrayed as this awful guy who can’t commit to one woman, his wife. Tom’s overall attitude towards women is disrespectful and uncaring. This is shown every time he cheats and or lies to Daisy, which proved to be quite often. He treated his wife with the utmost respect. Even though he tries his hardest to keep his wife happy, she still continues her affair with Tom Buchanan. When his wife asked for him to do anything, be it a little task or not, he did it promptly and with his best effort.
