It was once said that one could create their own reality and live in it and that is completely true. Within the two unique stories of Beowulf written by an unknown author and Grendel, also written by an unknown author, these two stories prove to the readers that you have the ability to create your own reality and flourish in it all on your own! The stories of Beowulf and Gredel come together to inform their readers about how Grendel was the embodiment of the physical and moral evil of heathenism. Beowulf's struggles to overcome the monster are thought to symbolize Anglo-Saxon England's emerging Christianity. Many critics have seen the epic poem of Beowulf, as a Christian allegory in which Beowulf, the champion of goodness and light, fights the forces of evil and darkness. His sacrificial death is seen not as tragic but as befitting the end of a good (some would say “too good”) hero's life. “A person can create their own reality and function in it.” This state reveals that someone is able to create a world of their own within their own perception and live in it. You can create a world where you have the power to control what you say, do, and influence the decisions that not only you but others may make. This is similar to hero Beowulf, Beowulf is a warrior who possesses severe qualities such as courage, respect, and strength, this can also be defined as heroism. A hero is noted for their actions of being brave, powerful and acting within honor. In the epic poem, Beowulf, the main character Beowulf shows these characters by defending the Danish King, Hrothgar, and his people. By being self-assured, Beowulf is able to successfully defend the opposing people, Grendel and his mother. In the poem, it states, “I’ve never known fear, as a youth I fought in endless battles. I am now old, but I will fight again, seek fame still, if the dragon hiding in his tower dares to face me.” This shows that Beowfulf feels no fear, he is content in taking on the dragon alone, he has no regrets in risking his life to rescue others. He declares his bravery by mentioning, “when he comes to me I mean to stand, to run his shooting flames, stand till fate decides which of us wins..no one else could do what I mean to, here, no man but could hope to feat this monster. In his actions, Beowulf's Bravery is shown throughout the poem. By becoming this brave hero and a night and shining armor to others, he is creating a reality that he can live in where is the hero that comes to the rescue no matter who you may be. He is clearly functioning within this reality and connects with the author's true purpose of showing the difference between good and evil, good prevailing in the end.
