Comparison Paper: The Hunger Games
The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins is all about Katniss Everdeen volunteering as tribute from District 12 to fight for her life at the city of Panem in the hunger games. Katniss is the protagonist of the novel. She is very quiet, humble and intelligent girl. Katniss is an excellent hunter, archer, gatherer, and trapper, skilled just like her deceased father. The other tribute from District twelve is Peeta Mellark. He is a very likeable, independent and strong young man. Even though they don't speak and Katniss doesn't consider Peeta a friend, he saves her life when they are 11 and she is starving behind the bakery by burning a loaf of bread on purpose so he could give it to her. Comparing these two characters will help the readers have a much better understanding of how the two together overcome adversity.
Both Katniss and Peeta found themselves in a horrible situation to start off the novel. Peeta was chosen to participate in the 74th hunger games while Katniss volunteered as tribute for her dear sister, Prim. Also, both Katniss and Peeta come from district 12. “At least, you two have decent manners,” says Effie as we’re finishing the main course (Collins 44). Katniss and Peeta have to overcome many problems throughout not only the hunger games but the entire story. One example of this is when Katniss goes and gets medicine that Peeta heavily needs knowing the fact that she could be in grave danger. They need each other to survive and end up both living due to this. In the end of the games, Peeta and Katniss decide to eat poisonous berries and die together. The game makers stopped them because they needed a winner. With this being said, it shows how working together can help to have a positive
