Why did Sir John Davies only criticize the inability of Irish people themselves rather than England’s imperial colonization method in explaining why Ireland was never subdued? Why doesn't Davies see a fault in the approach? In the beginning Davies brings up a “defect that hindered” was that “a barbarous country must first be broken by a war before it will be capable of good government; and when it is fully subdued and conquered, if it be not well planted and governed after the conquest it will soon return to the former barbarism.” Davies claimed that the Irish were “like wild fruit trees” in their old traditions to become one with England. When I read the document I expected details such as military faults in leadership and strategy, but it

Imperialism In the 19th and 20th centuries, various powerful nations sent colonizers to dominate weaker nations and expand their influence. This domination is called imperialism, which is still practiced today in moderation. Among the many countries shaped by imperialism were India and China. Imperialism was a controversial idea that a nation can extend its power outward through means of diplomatic or military force. This often results in a shift of power from one major force currently in control to another. The people of that nation under control conflict may also experience wars, rebellions, or cultural destruction. Looking at some of these events, we see some positives and negatives of imperialistic action taken by the United States, and how it affected the nations imperialized by the United States. For starters, let’s look at Hawaii’s annexation.
As America became a great power, it has continued its legacy of territorial expansionism through neo-imperialist policies. Aside from acquiring land and expanding American territory, the United States has established policies that have allowed direct and often indirect military and political control, economic exploitation, and the introduction of American ideals. The U.S. has justified this form of colonialism by claiming that it is for mutual economic pursuits, the spreading of democracy, and the establishment of stable governments in developing countries. Despite America’s noble causes, American imperialism has caused many repercussions. The United States should cease to be an imperialist power as it is economically damaging to countries under its rule, costly to America, violates the fundamental American principle of self-governance, and exacerbates social and political situations in countries America has tampered with.

Colonialism and Imperialism affected our world both positively and negatively. On one hand, Imperialism has often been linked with racial segregation, manipulation, and hardship. On the other, it has been said that many colonial powers contributed much in terms of schools, roads, railways, and much more. Whether this time period was constructive or harmful, it has played a large part in shaping our lives today. European Imperialism started long before the 1800’s.

Imperialism has been the strongest force this past century; Enslaving natives, while obliterating civilizations. Imperialism is when a country or civilization swallows another country for its land, labor, and raw materials with influence or military force. Imperialism was both, good and bad. Imperialism was a good thing because it expanded existing civilizations, and allowed people to be more civilized under a large military force. Imperialism was a bad thing because people in charge would become too power hungry and try to gain more of everything disregarding the people who are suppose to be civilized.

All of these philosophers justified imperialism in their own ways.

In order for America to achieve its goal of becoming an imperialist nation they had conquered other countries economically, culturally, and with a strong military in the late 1800’s.
It is undeniably true that imperialism, as an ancient fact, has left conflicting traces in the remembrance of thousands of people. For many, Empire was the main factor leading to the victory and prosperity which offered Britain some crucial advantages as well as positively changed the economic state of India as a subcontinent. For an influential novelist of the twentieth century - Rudyard Kipling, imperialism was a doctrine which presumed England supremacy over India along with its duties to bring law and edification to the colonize people. This imperial idea, as seen by some literacy critics, was the inspiration and the main theme for most of his published novels. One of the best examples for his pro-imperialist work is Kim.
The United States and Japan were also imperialist powers; however, neither was involved in colonizing Africa. Economical, political, and social causes were the roots of imperialism.
