Have you ever thought you didn't like something until you tried it and liked it? The theme of both stories are similar but the approach of the story is different in many ways! This is comparing the theme of both stories and contrasting how the approach of the story is. In “Learning To Skate” and “Brown Onions” the theme is similar as in both stories Linda and Erika try something they don’t like then find out they like it. In text one Linda hates ice skating but her mother makes her go. Then she finds out she likes ice skating. In text two Erika hates onions, but when her dad challenges her to try it, she finds out she likes it. Similarly, both themes are similar, in text one, Linda was forced to go ice skating by her mom. I know this because, “This is the last weekend the rink is open," her mother said. "I'm going out of town for work. And you're going skating with your father." (Akers, par. 20). In text two, Erika tried onions on a burger and liked it and wanted more, I know this because the text states, “Can I have some more onions” (Akers, par.41).
