Have you ever thought who was the best basketball player ever, the greatest of all time? Some might say it is Michael Jordan, but currently some people might argue it is actually Lebron James, who is the greatest player of all time. This comparison is very important in today's sports, with many people joining the debate. There are many deciding factors to see who the better of the two are, and we must know who is the best.
In comparison, Michael Jordan and Lebron James are both very dominant basketball players. For starters, they both have a very good work ethic and always wanted to be better than everyone else in the NBA. Starting off with “MJ”, he mainly played shooting guard, but could run the court as a point guard. Jordan was about 6’6” and 215 pounds. Michael Jordan attended to the University of North Carolina and was drafted to the Chicago Bulls in 1984 only to retire in 1998, but he came out of retirement to play for the Washington Wizards from 2001 to 2003 (“Lebron James vs. Jordan”). Unlike Lebron, Michael Jordan won 6 rings, in fact he was 6-0 in the finals, which means he never lost one he has been to. Jordan has also scored more points, 32,292 to be exact. He was perceived as one of the best scorers of all time. All in all Jordan has won more championships and is better statistically. Jordan has been to more playoffs, has more season MVP’s, has more scoring leader trophies, and more defensive trophies (“Lebron James vs. Michael Jordan Comparison”). For one game after his first retirement, Jordan joined a team called the Tune Squad, with players such as Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, Tweety Bird, and even included Bill Murray. On this team in 1996, Jordan defeated a team of space invaders who took the abilities of other NBA all-stars and made them their own. In contrast, “King James” main position is power forward, but unlike Jordan, Lebron is able to run the court at any position on the court. Lebron is 6’8” and 250 pounds. Lebron James was projected to be so good in the NBA that he came into the draft straight out of high school. He was drafted first pick in 2003 to the Cleveland Cavaliers until 2010 when he left the Cavs to go to the Miami Heat, only to return to Cleveland in 2014 and still plays today (“Lebron James vs. Michael Jordan”). Despite Jordan being the best scorer, Lebron is thought to be a better, passer and rebounder, and yet is still close to being one of the best scorers. Lebron has only 3 rings, but has been to 8 Finals. Lebron has played through a changing era in basketball from players being versatile down low in the paint scoring, to outside long ball three pointers. Lebron has adapted in both areas in scoring down low and outside, which makes him dangerous from anywhere. Even Though Jordan has won more championships, Lebron has played better competition than Jordan. Lebron has faced “super teams” almost alone, unlike Jordan, who had a great team that played easier competition. Also, Lebron is on his 15th year in the league and still more to come compared to Jordan retiring at the end of his 15th year, giving Lebron more opportunity for greatness
