Lewis and Clark were known for an incredible journey that changed US history. The journey increased the size of the US dramatically. From May 14, 1804, to September 23, 1806, a dangerous but yet history changing exploration occurred. Through many dangerous situations and hardships, the expedition of Lewis and Clark turned out a success.
During their journey, they returned 50 freed prisoners to Osage. They built a fort in the Rio Grande a lace in Spanish territory. They were arrested and returned on April 27, 1813. The Spanish treated them nicely. Pikes valuable information was not as extensive as Lewis and Clarks.

When Lewis and clark started their exploration conditions were terrible because they were always outside and were having to do everything on their own. Before Lewis and clark there were plans to explore the west, there would of been a first explorer named Michaax but they found out he was a secret agent for the French.

In 1803, Lewis and Clark set on a journey to the Pacific Ocean so that they could find a waterway connecting the ocean and the Missouri River. This expedition would change many americans lives and this would make the United States a populated country. This would teach people about land that nobody has any idea about. This would give people an idea of where they are living.
Prior to the Purchase of the Louisiana Territory, Thomas Jefferson was desired to explore the area to see if there was an all-water route to the Pacific Ocean and claim that land for the United States. The main goals of the Lewis and Clark Expedition was to map the region, collect information on new species, and to establish contact with the Native groups and make peace with them. In document 1, the map reveals that one goal of Lewis and Clark’s expedition was to find a waterway from the US to the Pacific Ocean. They did not find this route, but they did successfully navigate the Missouri River.
People normally wouldn’t think about the importance that two people had on this world from over 200 years ago. Have you ever thought about the impact that these two men, Lewis and Clark had on our world, and how they might’ve changed things for the United States? Most likely not. These two men set out on a journey that lasted 2 years and 4 months to search for a land route to the Pacific, to strengthen American claims to the Oregon territory, also to gather more information about the inhabitants and country of the Far West. You may not think these two men have any importance to today but, they discovered many things that this world knows today.
On the way home they split apart from each other to go separate ways to try to find a faster way back home. Lewis and Clark finally found each other again at the Missouri River and made the last part of their trip back to St. Louis. They traveled about 8,000 miles either by foot, boat, or horseback. They traveled to Washington, D.C. While they were traveling, they were greeted by people of every town they stopped in.

After the debriefing was completed, Lewis and Clark joined up with the others of the group and headed out into uncharted territory. The Corps of Discovery left out of St. Charles, Missouri on May 21, 1804, headed west in a long boat called a keelboat. The group went up the Missouri river until June when they entered the Platte River. The group has not encountered any humans besides themselves in over a month.
