Abraham Lincoln wasn’t born as a Slave, like Douglass was. Lincoln was emancipated at the age of 21 years old. Lincoln avoided conversations that were about his childhood. Lincoln didn’t want any of his family members to join the civil war. Lincoln was a president during his life.

Frederick Douglass was born as a slave, while Lincoln wasn’t. Douglass emancipated himself by escaping from slavery. Frederick gave himself the last name Douglass. Douglass made his childhood in slavery the centerpiece of his writing. Douglass encouraged his sons to join in the civil war.

They both had suffered a horrible childhood filled with trauma and little formal education. Both of them were obsessed with the idea of freedom.
