4. How did the Great War for Empire change the relationship between England and its American colonies? The Great War for Empire, or Seven Years’ War went on between 1756 and 1763. The unfair taxation of the colonists is what sparked this war; there were also several other political and economic factors, which also played a large part.
When comparing Sam Adams, George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, and John Adams, we can see that there are some similarities and differences between the men. Perhaps the most notable relation this group has, is that they were all formal presidents and had some type of power or ownership. The qualities of all four men are often seen as opposed to each other. One similarity for example, with George Washington and Thomas Jefferson was that they were prosperous Virginian plantation owners and held slaves. Jefferson and Adams were both well educated people and knew about the law.

Abraham Lincoln and Frederick Douglass were both prominent figures in American history, but they came from vastly different backgrounds. Douglass was born into slavery in Maryland and Lincoln was born into poverty in kentucky. Despite their differences, both men were known for their work towards ending slavery. To begin, Lincoln is best known for writing the Emancipation Proclamation, which declared that all slaves in Confederate-held territory were to be freed. He also wrote the Gettysburg address, which is considered to be one of the greatest speeches in history.

Two great speeches, Patrick Henry’s Give Me Liberty or Give Me Death and Abraham Lincoln’s House Divided, both show how our nation was led by great leaders. In both of these powerful speeches, there is passion and figurative language. One can see how our nation was led by men who fought for freedom. However, I feel Patrick Henry had inspiring words that captured the hearts and emotions of the American people. Lincoln’s appeal to his audience was plain-spoken and all about unity.

In his recent study, "The Radical and the Republican: Frederick Douglass, Abraham Lincoln, and the Triumph of Antislavery Politics" (2007), Professor James Oakes traces the intersecting careers of both men, pointing out their initial differences and how their goals and visions ultimately converged. Oakes is Graduate School Humanities Professor and Professor of History at the Graduate Center of the City University of New York. He has written extensively on the history of slavery in the Old South. Oakes reminds the reader of how much Lincoln and Douglass originally shared.

As the result, he passed out the Emancipation Proclamation on September 22, 1862, which give freedom to slaves in the states that the Union did not control. Abraham Lincoln and Martin Luther King Jr. were one of the biggest influences on Slavery and Civil Rights. As well as being great leaders during their times. Julius Caesar and Abraham Lincoln were similar in a lot of ways. Both were very famous political figures known for dealing with civil wars amongst their countries. They also both supported the common people and wanted to advance their countries to be more modern. Caesar updated the Roman Calendar and contributed to many reforms that helped the common people of his empire. Lincoln was a supporter of stopping the expansion of slavery which won him the popularity of the northern states.
