The quote “... only when it is dark enough can you see the stars” by, Martin Luther King Jr. in my interpretation means that you can see the best in people when they are at their worst. When people are at their darkest time do they have the brightest ideas. I agree with this quote. This quote alongside setting and conflict are reflecting in “The Glass Castle” by Jeannette Walls and “Looking for Alaska” by John Green. In “The Glass Castle” by Jeannette Walls, setting and conflict merge to better explain this quote. The novel takes place mostly in the desert, but their are many other locations. The conflict is that Jeannette and her family are very poor. Inturn she had a very harsh life. When she was little she was burnt and had to go to the hospital, when she was all better and had to pay the bill they ran away. The unstable jobs of her father alongside his alcoholism also caused her to move a lot. Despite all Walls and her siblings make it work. The novel takes place on a campus, Pudge, Alaska, and the Colonel meet and become friends. The conflict arise when Alaska is found missing and later died. Now Pudge and Colonel piece together the night she disappeared. Alaska was always the misbehaving type on campus, always uptight and devious, this was the reason Pudge and Colonel didn't believe she could commit suicide. That night was Alaska found out she forgot to visit her mother's grave on her deathaversary, she was very devastated and took flowers to her grave but didn't make it. It was dark type which cause Alaska to show some type of emotion. The fact was the Alaska was there when her mother died and she didn't call 911, a fact the always haunted her.
