Beowulf against Mandela

A hero is someone who is admired for his or her actions. Actions such as valor and audacity to achieve the moments that define a hero. One such hero is Beowulf, the hero who had defeated plenty of foes in the epic Beowulf. Beowulf was the mighty hero who had slain the mighty Grendel, Grendel’s mother, and the dragon. Nelson Mandela is a modern hero of today’s time period compared to Beowulf who is descended from the Anglo-Saxon time period who is very comparable to the hero. The two heroes have very similar traits, but also many differences which distinguish the two to be alike and unalike for many reasons. Mandela was a political man and Beowulf was mighty warrior so the two had very different lifestyles and variant ways of becoming known as a hero, but both were admired greatly by their people which is why both men are considered heroic. Even though the two heroes have their similarities they both have a big distinction between each other.

Both heroes naturally carry leadership with them to lead the people of their countries and are trusted and admired by their people. Beowulf was more of a prideful warrior who fought for his own glory and fame while Mandela accomplished his deeds for the people of South Africa not for himself. Mandela would have a huger impact on the world than Beowulf because of the different achievements the two heroes had. Beowulf would not be fighting monsters today so he would not have much effect as Mandela would in his political career. Nelson Mandela is more heroic than Beowulf because he is more effective as a hero and doesn’t have the pride that Beowulf has.
