Graphic novels are the result of a dramatic change in the landscape of the American comic book, with the creation of the direct market, a system where publishers sold comic books directly to specialty comics stores, and challenges created by The Comic Code Authority, comics were forced to adapt. Hartigan and Marv are two characters that both possess attributes of a hero, only Hartigan’s history as a cop shadows him making him more ethical than Marv, who is a clear anti-hero.
