The play version of The Diary of Anne Frank tell the story of a 13 year old girl who goes into hiding in an attic for over a year. In this play, Anne lives in a very crowded attic with “family” that doesn’t always get along. Similarly there is a teen boy who wrote a story describing his struggle in staying alive during the same time period, the holocaust. In Night Elie Wiesel struggles to stay alive during his life in the concentration camp without all of his family being there with him. Although Elie and Anne are in different settings and have different ways they treat their mothers, both share a great bond with their father. The setting in the play and the novella Night are very different in the view they interpret. In the play Anne is living in a cramped attic with her family and family-friends. In the attic all of the members must be silent throughout the day because they can’t let anyone know where they are. In the novella Night you can visualize a boy and his family being separated and taken to a concentration camp to struggle to survive. Despite the number of differences, both the play and the novela express very deep feelings. Anne is very disrespectful to her mother when her mother just want to talk to her about her nightmare she had, Anne pushes her away and would rather talk to her father, that really hurts her mother and makes her feel useless. Meanwhile, in the novella Night Elie is separated from his mother and never sees her again, this really upsets Elie but he knows he still has his father. Elie is separated from his mother as soon as they get to the camps and he didn’t even get to tell her goodbye.
