Neither “Obamacare” or “Trumpcare” are proper names for health care policies. The reason that both “Obamacare” and “Trumpcare” are in quotes is that neither, technically, exists. The words “Obamacare” and “Trumpcare” are often used to describe competing concepts which can be compared and contrasted. “Trumpcare” describes the health care changes that are made under current President Trump. “Obamacare” describes the Affordable Care Act, or the “ACA”. The ACA was passed in the United States Congress and signed into law by then President Obama. “Obamacare” is an effort to modify health care at the Federal government level. While “Obamacare” and “Trumpcare” prove to be very different, there are some aspects and mandates that are similar, or the exact same. On March 23, 2010, the ACA was officially signed into law by our then president, Barack Obama. Health care is a major issue concerning women of today’s society. As stated in “Obamacare”, “Insurance companies prohibited from charging women more than men for the same health plan and must provide core services including maternity care and contraceptives” (Zurcher). In “Trumpcare”, “Insurance companies still banned from charging women more, but states could allow insurers to drop maternity care and contraceptives from basic benefits. Also bans women from using federal tax credits to buy a plan that covers abortion” (Zurcher). Interviewee Three was in favor of “Obamacare’s” mandate because she plans to start a family someday and will prefer and need maternity. She also claimed that, “There are many women out there who are not ready to be pregnant and they need contraceptives.” “Obamacare” also established federal minimum benefits that all health insurance policies have to offer. “Trumpcare” will allow for states to apply for waivers that will allow them to change these minimum benefits. By doing this, it could help reduce health care coverage costs and could increase the number of Americans with health insurance. Interviewee Three stated that, “By giving states the authority to apply for waivers, it will hopefully make coverage cheaper if you just need a basic health care policy.” All of the responses could have been predicted because of her age.
