Obesity
Obesity is a nationwide epidemic for our pets. As pet owners, we think we are doing everything we can to ensure a healthy life for our pets; we buy the premium food for best nutrients and let them outside to play at least once a day. Is that enough? According to many studies, over 50% of our pet population is overweight. Since humans are usually busy with everyday life routine, sometimes it goes unnoticed that maybe the diet and exercise plan our pet is on may not be the best one. Another study performed by Hill’s Pet Nutrition, found that less caloric diets for dogs were extremely successful as long as humans were involved. More times than others, all our pets need in order to stay in tip top shape is a little motivation from their owners.

Poor nutrition can lead to many health defects, such as decreasing the lifespan by as much as two years. Adult dogs require a small amount of fat and essential fatty acids daily. However, diets that are high in fat predispose dogs to obesity and may be a factor to other diseases such as arthritis, pancreatitis, and other inflammatory conditions. Although most dogs can generally tolerate a higher amount, it is important for a human to intervene if necessary.
