In the novel Lord of the Flies by William Golding, because of three defining moments, Jack changed the most out of all the boys. The first of the moments that changed him occurred in the beginning of the novel on page 23 when Ralph was chosen to be the chief of the boys instead of Jack. Jack was upset at not being chief, but he still took a position of leadership by making the choir boys the hunters and volunteering to be in charge of them. Ralph says “Jack’s in charge of the choir. They can be-what do you want them to be?’’
In the Novel, Lord of the Flies, there are two boys that take on leadership roles while stranded on an island. They both want to be in control and have the power, but they have a contrast in the way that they gain control and gain their position. While Ralph’s leadership is taking a more democratic approach, Jack’s is more like a dictatorship. When comparing the two, one clearly is more effective than the other. Instead of forcing his leadership on everyone, Ralph decides that they should have a vote, and leaves it up to the other boys to decide who should be leader.

The Island of Hell Lord of the Flies by William. Golding shows us how quickly humans can turn to evil when they are isolated from society. On the island, the boys thought they were in a paradise all alone on an island without rules and adults to control them, but soon later realized that they were trapped in hell. as the quest for power had driven the boys to become Savage and toss aside the ways of society. The author introduces Jack and Ralph as two conflicting characters that fight for control over the island going at it and opposite ways, one good and one evil.

The oppressive leader in Lord of the Flies is the antagonist, Jack. Jack is not only oppressive, but incredibly authoritarian. When Ralph won the leader position, Jack “ took command of the hunters, the forces of naked power. “We'll have rules!” he cried excitedly.
Thus in a comparison between Ralph and Jack I would personally choose Ralph as a leader as he can command attention and he seems to have a stronger sense of order and democracy than his counterpart. I say counterpart because in countless ways but just appearance alone where Ralph is depicted as glowing, golden and attractive, Jack is ugly and dark which I believe is a tool used by the author to demonstrate the inner personalities of the characters. They might organise themselves in this way to mimic the governments they have been exposed to all their lives. Another interpretation is that historically and even prehistorically there has been a primal need for a leader, someone to decide for the others that are not capable of doing such things.

The changing relationship between Ralph and Jack, the protagonist and antagonist in Lord of the Flies is one where these two boys at first seem like allies but quickly diverge and distance themselves apart and soon become completely at odds with one another. Due to the different approaches they take in the leadership of a group of boys stranded on an uninhabited island, the group splits into two opposing and even warring factions, showing the severity of their antagonism. In the beginning, relations between Ralph and Jack are not as hostile. When they explore their island, they appear to act like friends, fooling around and casually playing.

Characters in this novel resemble people in WWII. Jack is a symbol of dictatorship and Ralph is a symbol of democracy. Though in the beginning of the novel Ralph had control, Jacks dictatorship caused him to take total control. Between the two boys Jack is the more successful leader.
In Lord of the Flies, William Golding shows the progression of absolute power, and how ambition can take over one's mind. Stranded on an island after their plane crashed, the boys create their own democracy with one absolute ruler, just like many other governments throughout history. The boys voted Ralph as their ruler, but Jack slowly starts to take some of Ralph’s power, and eventually usurps him as their chief. Lord of the Flies suggests that absolute power is corrupt, and that humans are overly ambitious in wanting to take power from the person who has the most of it. Just like any large group of people, the boys decide that they “ought to have a chief to decide things” (Golding 22).

Ralph and Jack had just met on the island due to the plane crash, signifying that they were strangers at the beginning of the story and all of them were forced with no choice but to become acquaintances as they were the only ones stranded on the desolate island. Their relationship started on a good note when Jack, Ralph and Simon decided to scout the island. As they began to scout the island, they started to warm up to each other.
