Presidents Theodore Roosevelt and Woodrow Wilson played important roles and had huge impacts during the Progressive Era that formulated our nation today. Roosevelt had a big contribution to the economical matter as well as conservation issues. He cared about giving the people what they deserved and tried to save the national parks from destruction by industries. He fought big corporations and corruption in an attempt to help the common man. He disliked the power of the trusts and also created Square Deal policies to regulate the power of labor and offer people improve their lives. Back then, people were working in harsh and dangerous work environments and were paid low wages with long tedious hours. The equipment in the facilities was dangerous and being illegally used by the workers. Roosevelt saw the complaints the industries were getting from workers because of the harmful problems and wanted to make it better for them. He demanded that safe equipment was to be used and assured that people would be safe working in those conditions. Also during the coal strikes, coal miners were angry because of the bad working conditions and wanted their company to be heard. Roosevelt feared that this would hurt the government by the violence and strikes the workers were holding and wanted to help the miners get what they deserved. The election was against Wilson, Roosevelt, Taft, and Debs. During the election most people were focusing their attention on Wilson and Roosevelt instead of Taft, who didn't want to run in the race, or Debs, who was campaigning from a jail cell. The popular vote and the electoral vote was won by Wilson who won the votes of almost every state in the country. People didn’t want Roosevelt as president again because they wanted new power in the government and Wilson showed new ideas to make the country a better place for everyone. Also, people wanted a more democratic president than progressive because they wanted their voices to be heard and thought Wilson would make their opinions stand out. Wilson's main goals for the country were to emulate the parliamentary system, get successful reforms, and create a new system where there are no trusts and people are viewed equally in society which would make this a better nation.
