In both “Rude” and A Midnight Summer’s Dream the father will not allow the daughter to follow her true feelings and the daughter only cares about her love. In MAGIC!’s (the band name is MAGIC! this is not a typo) song “Rude” the father states “[you’ll] never get [my] blessing until the day I die”, the father knows the man before him is his daughter’s true love but still denies his plea for marriage. He thinks that out there is someone better for his daughter and wants to protect her. He thinks he’s doing this for her benefit when in reality it will only hurt his relationship with her and if the speaker doesn’t get the girl it could be ruining her life as well. This shows how the girl willingness to do anything for her suitor (the speaker). She would run, hide, and break the law for this love. This is a perfect example of what true love is. One outlook on what true love is: true love is when a person can be put in any reasonable situation and would be okay with it as long as they are with their love. This feeling is shown through how she would “do anything for him”. In A Midnight Summer’s Dream Hermia feels true love for Lysander but is told by her father that she may not marry him and must marry Demetrius. The feeling of love is obvious and present and yet Hermia’s father doesn’t see. She tells Egeus how she loves Lysander. The father once again tries to use his world experience to make a critical decision. They think their daughter is making a poor decision and that they need to step in and help guide them. When Lysander offers: “I have a widow aunt [...] she respects me as her only son […] to that place the athenian law cannot pursue us.” he makes a bold move and suggest moving away from their homes and families and friends all for love
