The reason why the characters in “The Old Grandfather and his Little Grandson” and “Abuelito Who” are extremely similar is because they both are described with identical characters. Also, their universal themes happen to disseminate the exact same moral, while the authors wrote them in two dissimilar writing styles.
The Dawn by Garcia Lorca Dawn is poem written by Federico García Lorca. Lorca wrote this poem to his family after he arrived in New York. Lorca writes about his visits in New York and how he felt miserable being there. The Dawn is a poem that talks about an author’s feelings or point of view about the dawn in New York. Garcia Lorca expresses how he felt miserable and empty during dawn in New York because it brought no hope to him.
He does this for 3 days. During those 3 days, he has very little food, only some fish that he caught. While out on the sea, the sun is “painful” to his eyes, which is even worse “in the morning” (33). It brightly shines and blinds him, making it harder for him to see the marlin. Another obstacle the old man faces is when the rope cuts the flesh in the working part of his right hand and his left hand cramps “into a claw” (56-58).
The old man could see the good and sincere nature of the creature. Ironically, this was because he was blind. In 1851, Victor Hugo was exiled from France by Napoleon III due to Victor Hugo’s open attacks declaring that Napoleon III was a traitor of France. During this exile, settled upon the island of Guernsey, Victor Hugo conceived, wrote and published Les Travailleurs de la Mer (Toilers of the Sea). Within this novel, Hugo turns away from social and political issues and instead focuses on transforming mundane events of a small island community into drama of the highest calibre and man’s struggle with the sea and it’s inhabitants. Herman Melville was born on August 1, 1819 in New York City. He lived a lavish lifestyle with several servants attending the house at one time, switching households every four years to a larger and better one. This was mostly due to Allan Melville’s, his father, work. He imported French dry goods, such as; clothing, thread, and other hardware in order to sell them for a percentage of the sales price. Due to this, Melville didn’t get to see his father often because he spent his time travelling to Europe for more goods.
Every novel or stories gives a fundamental ideas or lesson for the readers. Most of the lesson are informative and it brings a changes to the readers mind. There will be a universal of an ideas explored in a literature and readers can abstract numerous themes depending on each individual. Similarly, in the novel “the old man and the sea” Hemingway depicted several themes related to nature, people and so on. However determination can also be one of the theme for the readers because the old man, Santiago didn’t gave up fishing even if he had cramp but he took this as an encouragement in his old age.
In the novel The Old Man and The Sea, written by Ernest Hemingway a credible author, the use of figurative language was not sparse. Figurative language enhances the story line and makes the book interesting and detailed. The most notable uses of figurative language were similes, metaphors, personification, idioms, and hyperboles. Similes are described as a comparison using like or as. We found many examples throughout the text.
