On the river of United States history, there are many remarkable war to help United States earn its independence. Though the wars which happened during the Independence Wars were important in winning the independence back to the United States, there were still two battles very significant among all the battles: the Battles of Lexington and Concord. They connected with each other and made big effects to the whole United States.The reason of the battle of Lexington and Concord was the most critical war of the American Revolution is that it showed all the foreign countries that the Americans were not only willing to fight for their freedom, but they would be willing to die for their nation. British Army Officer Francis Smith is the British Major General of the battle of Lexington. He received the order from the government of the Great Britain that there are many weapons like guns in Concord which located just near Boston. Francis Smith was very happy and wanted to use these weapons to improve the military power of the Great Britain, so he ordered and sent his troops to find the weapons and bring them back. However, when the worker John Parker heard this news, he was shocked and angry at the British troops. John Parker decided to break the scheme down. He went to the towns nearby and gathered many workers as Minute Men to help protect the peace of Concord. On April 19,1775, in Middlesex County, Province of Massachusetts Bay, near Boston, the shot in Lexington made militia angry, so they see this shot as a declaration of a war and they rushed up. The British troops were far outnumbered militia, so they didn’t lose much in this war. But they were surprised that American revolted and attack the British troops. Compared to British soldiers, the militia was hurt badly: “The company immediately dispersed; and while the company was dispersing and leaping over the wall, the second platoon of the British fired and killed some of our men. .”(1) This battle is well known for the "shot heard round the …show more content…

There are several reasons. The first one is what I mentioned before, it marked the opening of the Independence War between the Great Britain and United States. “ The British suffered badly, nearly 20 percent casualties, but more importantly, this action led to the siege of Boston and the start of the Revolutionary War.” (4) Before these two battles, Boston Massacre has already brought many American’s anger. They refused to pay taxes. However, the Great Britain didn’t pay much attention to that. Many American demonstrators showed up in March of 1770, the British can’t make them calm down, so they decided to fire and killed five innocent people. This event brought notice of American, although they still admit they belong to the Great Britain. But the peaceful time didn’t last very long, the famous The Boston Tea Party shocked the Great Britain. At midnight, Adams and a small group of Sons of Liberty disguised as Mohawk Indians boarded the ships and dumped all of the tea into the sea.Even though the time was very late, there still many people stood by and watched this “great event”. “It took nearly three hours for more than 100 colonists to empty the tea into Boston Harbor. The chests held more than 90,000 lbs. (45 tons) of tea, which would cost nearly $1,000,000 dollars today.”(5) The Great Britain can’t bear the colonials
