Social movements are a rebellion to get your thinking out there and get that thinking hopefully followed. The United States has solved many issues brought up by past social movements when involving dejure issues. However, more needs to be done when involving defacto problems. The big difference between the two is that dejure involves laws that should be strictly followed. While defacto involves human thinking, that is because people have had ingrained in their minds for many centuries that one thing should be on the way and never be changed. Two large social movements with similar causes are the Civil Right Movement and the Black Power Movement. Both are about better treatment of black people. However, the Civil Right Movement had many more goals met than the Black Power Movement. This is because the Civil Rights Movement was trying to solve many dejure issues while the Black Powers Movement was trying to solve many defacto problems. Two specific topics were equal voting and more integration, especially in the South where the Jim Crow Laws caused the largest issues. The United States has solved these two main issues with the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Voting Rights Act of 1965. The Voting Rights of 1965 removes the limitations on black people while voting. The Civil Rights Act of 1964 bans segregation in private businesses unless it limits access to the public in general. Such as needing a membership in a club. While the goals of the Civil Rights Movement have been accomplished. The way the goals were accomplished was by placing laws. A tactic that can only be used if the problem was a dejure problem. The problem of banning segregation has been fixed unless there needs to be paid and qualifications to get the privileges. This brings up the Black Power Movement trying to fix inequality in
