Throughout history black people have been looked down upon however, Angelou, Douglass, and Hugh’s have helped black people who had gone through those experiences. Angelou, Douglass, and Hugh’s are all black authors who have written exceedingly influential books. When discussing the impacts on black people, Angelou, Douglass, and Hugh’s works are important to consider because they all are some of the biggest influences on the black people at the time.
Douglass was one of the most influential authors of the time period because he accomplished everything he did before the Civil War started. Douglass grew up in slavery and escaped all before the Civil War. When Douglass escaped, he wrote his book so that people could see just how horrendous slavery was. He grew up to become a public speaker in 1841. While others were still in slavery he became an abolitionist who wanted civil rights. Throughout his speeches it is possible that through word of mouth, he became an inspiration to the people who were still in slavery that they could successfully escape and go on to do whatever they wanted. …show more content…

Both grew up after the Civil war started. Unlike Douglass, they grew up after the time of slavery. However, they grew up when racism was still rampant in America. While Angelou talked more about her experience with racism in her book, Hughs talked about racism in a different way in his poem “Mother to Son” he talked about as though it was coming from a motherly figure. The different ways they talk about racism is extremely important because many people may not resonate with how one wrote it but the way the other wrote it makes more sense to them. This helped the African American community because the representation of racism is different in both and allows them to pick which one resonates with them more. Overall, both Hughs and Angelou are both very important to the African American
