The United States of America, one of the greatest countries on earth today. A place that 318.9 million people call their home. A country whose identity has been formed by a series of wars, people, political events, and more day in and day out. Going back to the earliest stage of America that we know, The French and Indian war was the first major war that started to create and form the America we know today. For over a century the French and British lived peacefully amongst one another in the new world. The French and Indian War started by the French and the British wanting to expand their country's ruling over the new world. This made it difficult to tell whether you were on French or British land. Britain was in control of what we call the 13 Colonies until the Appalachian Mountains. After the Appalachian Mountains was the French Region, called New France, a much bigger and larger region than the British. From Louisiana, through the Mississippi Valley; from the Great Lakes to Canada all of this was under French control. One disputed valley was the Upper Ohio Valley, the French built many different forts in this region. The reason was to make the French presence and claim on this land known to the British. The British then developed an attack on the French in this valley, Lieutenant Colonel George Washington led them into battle for this attack. His forces were overtaken by the French’s overwhelming number of troops. As news spread to the British Prime Minister about the failed attack he called for a another quick strike on the the French again. These small attacks just to gain control over a disputed region of land led to a large, full scale war. Because of the bitterness of the French about losing their land in the new world, the French ended up joining the Patriots. The French became a major ally for the Patriots when they started to support them. Thanks to Benjamin Franklin’s popularity with the French, the people in France wanted their country to help support the Americans. Franklin was seen as a representative of the British Colonists, he was viewed as a republican with simplicity and honesty. There became a huge rage in France to start supporting the Colonists. Charles Gravier Comte De Vergennes, (a French statesman during the reign of Louis XVI), agreed to give the colonists a secret loan, but not to fully establish an alliance at first due to the Spanish. The Spanish was weary of a US independence and they also wanted their land back if they went to war with the British.
