4.1 Describe the degree of global ‘interconnection’ after 1500 CE compared to before 1500. What were the overall effects of this change in global interconnectedness?
The world became much more connected as pre 1500 had not included many regions of the world compared to after 1500. The New World becomes much more involved in trade through the Columbian Exchange as well as Indian Ocean Trade becoming more active. The effects were that colonization, exchanges of diseases and crops, ideas, technology, and trade increased.

They didn’t advance technology but rather used the existing to their advantage in trade.
4.1.II.A What technical developments made transoceanic European travel & trade possible?
The compass, originating from China, became hugely valuable as it can be used to cross large bodies of water more directly as opposed to sticking near shores. The triangular sail also helped by using wind to sail which allowed for further voyages.
4.1.II.B Where did those developments originate?
Most developments spread from the South the the North, from Asia (China) → Islam empire/ India → Europe. And improvements were made along the way.

A Portuguese school for navigation attained knowledge and interest in travel and allowed for trade w/ West Africa which started Portuguese trading. As well as Christopher Columbus's voyage to the Caribbeans in 1492 that lead to the beginning of the Columbian Exchange. 4.1.III.A Where did Zheng He and the Chinese Treasure Fleets travel?
