The two alliances – NATO and the Warsaw Pact were established as the unions of opposing forces counterbalancing the Western world and the Soviet Union. After the World War II Europe was still facing the threat of the militarist nationalism on the continent, as well as was trying to prevent the uncontrollable expansion of the Soviet Union. For this purpose an alliance between the European countries and the United States had been concluded to ensure the presence of the American forces, supporting the placidity in Europe. The members of the Warsaw pact – a communist alliance – were the Soviet Union, Albania, Bulgaria, Czechoslovakia, the German Democratic Republic (East Germany), Hungary, Poland and Romania. By this pact they united against the
