University of the People September, 28, 2014 GREEK AND ROMAN CIVILIZATION HIST 1421 The Ancient Rome was a civilization that spread like wild fire, they origin was from the Italian Peninsula that started as early as the 8th century BC. Roman society came to be divide into two kinds of classes were they known as Patricians and plebeians. The upper class of citizens was small group wealthy land owners who belived they were from some of the first families that form Rome in beging. They were called patricians, which means father and hey claim to have noble statues in Rome society becouse they controlled the most valuable land and held key military religious offices. The patricians were a hereditary aristocracy. The lower class Roman citizens were called plebeians, which means many. The plebs means everyone else apart from the aristocracy. They were mostly peasants, laborers, artisans, shopkeepers, soldiers and any other kind of citizens. If you were born plebeian you stayed a plebian for the rest of your life as there was process to changing that.
