"Outsiders" Compare and Contrast Essay The “ Outsiders” movie and novel are awkward and interesting. Upon watching both they appeared to be somewhat similar. However, after finishing the movie and having time to reflect they have distinct differences.
They are different in their setting and point of view. Similar in their protagonist, antagonist, and theme. They both are two very great books that teach readers about the tragic history. Most people are too caught up in their electronics these days that they don’t get to learn about what happened in the real world. They worry too much about if their friends or crushes text back, they don’t worry enough about what their family had been through in times like slavery, civil rights, wars, and the Holocaust.
In the Novel Ironman by Chris Crutcher, there are two characters, Beauregard “Bo” Brewster and his girlfriend Shelly. Bo is the protagonist of the story. Bo and Shelly have a lot of similarities, and a lot of differences. Some of their similarities caused them to even meet each other in the first place. They have both went through plenty of hardships caused by a number of bad people throughout their lives.
Abigail Williams and Joseph McCarthy have some similarities. Those similarities include behavior, beliefs, and motives. The book The Crucible by Arthur Miller and the movie Good Night and Good Luck directed by George Clooney were in different eras and had different topics. Both Abigail Williams and Joseph McCarthy had similar problems just in different ways. They both believed they were doing the right thing by blaming innocent people.
Differences between people have been around since the begin of mankind, they have started great disasters such as every war ever started, deaths, and sometimes disappears. In the nonfiction passage Confetti Girl, by Diana Lopez, and the nonfiction text from Tortilla Sun, by Jennifer Cervantes, both the narrator's point of views differ from those of their parents, therefore creating conflict between each other. In Confetti Girl, the narrator is the little girl that feels her father is ignoring her because he cares too much about literature. In Tortilla Sun the other little girl feels her mother cares only about getting her degree and is not concerned about the needs of the girl. In Diana’s story the tension is created when the girl is not treated the way she was used to, and when her father is not listening to her conversation, in Jennifer’s story tension rises when things don't go the right way, and when bad news is given.
Conflict between the characters in the texts “Confetti Girl” by Diana Lopez and “Tortilla Sun” by Jennifer Cervantes is like Katniss battling President Snow in the Hunger Games trilogy. In the text “Confetti Girl”, the author talks about how an unnamed teen and her father have different opinions on homework. In “Tortilla Sun”, the author writes about how Izzy and her mother have mixed feelings on moving. In conclusion, conflict occurs when the child feels neglected and abandoned and the parent just wants what's best for the child.
In some cases, the main characters of two very different books can share many similarities and differences. One example of this was shown in the novels, Of Mice and Men and Flowers for Algernon. In Of Mice and Men, the novel took place during the Great Depression. Lennie, the main character, and his best friend George conquered this toilsome time together. They found work at a farm in California.
The narrator's are similar and different in many ways. Both narrators learns a lesson about being proud of their culture, but the lessons came from different people in their lives so, that affected them in different ways and what they took away from the lesson. Anthem is a dystopian novel featuring Equality, later renamed Prometheus, as the main character, and focuses on his journey to separate himself from the collectivist ideals of the society in which he lived. As written in “The Great Gatsby”, the first example of similarity is that the book has the same theme to the “Roaring 20’s”. In the written book, Fitzgerald described the parties as huge and dramatic, where as in the movie, the directors did a fantastic job translating Fitzgerald’s words into a lavish visual spectacle of booze, sequins, and confetti.

When comparing and contrasting two pieces of literature you have to observe not only the themes of them but also the plot. Fences by August Wilson and My Papa's Waltz by Theodore Roethke have many similarities and differences throughout the literature due to themes and the plot.
In short fiction, the characters experience conflicts that impact plot development. In the short story “The Lottery” by Shirley Jackson, the story had many conflicts one being when Tessie’s son had gathered rocks and started trying to kill his own mother. “The children had stones already. And someone gave little Davy Hutchinson a few pebbles.” (Jackson 7).
However, both Jack and Priscilla are quite similar due to their protective attitudes towards their friends. For example, in the story “Wonder”, Jack ended up in a showdown with Julian because he was insulting Auggie; this showdown resulted in Jack getting suspended from the school for two whole days. Also, on a camping trip, Auggie, Jack, and a few others, were attacked by some older seventh graders, and Jack protected Auggie; and they all ended up bruised and scraped. To recap, both stories are similar, in a sense, because they both deal with standing up to bullying. The comparison of characters is something an author allows us to do while reading a story, by telling us about the characters’ looks, their personalities, their lifestyles, and also the traits that may describe a character. “Everyday Use” written by Alice Walker, two characters named Maggie and Dee had a few things in common and many differences from each other. The characters Maggie and Dee, also known as “Wanergo,” are sisters who compete on who inherits the family heirlooms. The story is told from the mother’s (Mama’s) point of view.
