Starting in 1455 and ending in 1487 with the battle of Bosworth, the Wars of the Roses was a series of civil wars fought in medieval England. These wars were waged by two branches of the same family, the House of Lancaster and the House of York, both descended from Edward III. King Richard III was from the House of York and Henry Tudor, the House of Lancaster. Henry Tudor, (as commonly known as Henry VII), defeated King Richard III on August 22, 1485 in the battle of Bosworth. After the battle, Henry Tudor was crowned as King Henry VII, starting the beginning the 118-year reign of the Tudor Dynasty in England. The Tudor Dynasty started when Henry VII took control of the throne in 1485 and was succeeded by his son Henry VIII and his grandchildren,
